Signing in to Google Chrome

Your Eckerd account is a Google account. It is HIGHLY recommended that you do all Eckerd-related browsing (especially accessing your Gmail Inbox) on a Google Chrome tab signed in to your Eckerd account. Please read the below guide on how to add a Google Chrome account, and how to switch between different account types (personal, business, academic).

  1. Ensure you have Google Chrome downloaded and accessible.

  2. Open the Google Chrome app.

  3. You will see a screen that looks like this:

4. Click ‘Add’

5. Click ‘Sign In’

6. You may be prompted to select the type of account. Please select ‘Google account’ if you receive this prompt.

7. Enter your Eckerd email address in its entirety.

8. Enter your current password. If you receive an ‘invalid password’ error message, ensure it is being inputted correctly, or reset your password (reminder that the ‘Forgot my Password’ tool will not work. The ONLY way to reset your password is by going to passwords.eckerd.edu).

  • If you are enrolled in 2FA, you will be prompted to input a verification code.

A page on syncing browsers will pop up. Click ‘yes, I’m in’, to ensure your browsing is synced on all devices.

9. You will receive several popups asking how you would like to customize your browser. It is recommended to color code your Eckerd Google account, so that is easily-distinguishable from the other accounts you may be signed in to. Answer the remaining prompts as you see fit.

You are now signed in to Chrome with your Eckerd account.

How to Switch Between Chrome Profiles:

  1. In the top right corner of any Chrome browser window, you will see a smaller profile icon. Click the icon.

2. A drop-down menu will appear. Below, you will see all currently-signed-into Google accounts. They are listed under ‘Other Chrome profiles’.

3. Click any account you wish to access. Browsing will not be interrupted when you open and switch to another Chrome Profile, it will simply open another browser window or tab.

***Nota Bene: some users prefer using Outlook or Apple Mail to access Gmail. While this is permissible, it is not necessarily recommended. Please sign in to Gmail, from the mobile app version or the webpage version.***

  • When on a new Google Chrome tab, or from a tab you are accessing a Google app from, click the square in the top right corner. Here, you will be able to access a comprehensive menu of all Google apps. Easily open Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc, from this menu.

How to Add a Bookmark:

  1. For quick assess, you may bookmark your Gmail inbox and pin it to your bookmark bar:

  2. While on the browser tab Gmail is being accessed from, click the star in the top right corner of the address bar:

3. Edit the name of the bookmark if desired. Click the folder textbox to show the expanding menu:
