Eckerd College uses the OpenVPN Client to access certain resources from off campus. This also requires a Time-based One-time Password (TOTP) app on your mobile device. ITS recommends Twilio Authy, and these instructions describe the Authy download and configuration process.

iOS Devices

(Note: Google Authenticator will work as well if you are already using it on your device for other accounts.)

On your device:
  • After you download Authy, enter your mobile phone number, followed by your Eckerd College email address.
  • Choose the SMS message as a confirmation and then enter that code into the app when prompted.
  • Authy is now ready to add an account. Keep this app open while switching to the workstation.

On Windows or macOS workstation:
  • Open your browser of choice and go to https://vpn.eckerd.edu.
  • Enter your username and password and click Sign in.
  • A square QR code appears on the screen, it looks like this:

  • Keep the QR code visible on the browser screen and then switch over to your device.

On your device:
  • Open the application on your phone and chose the "Add Account" option.
  • Scan the QR code with your device camera when prompted.
  • Pick a name and a color for your new token. Finally, a six-digit code appears and will change every 30 seconds.
  • Leave the six-digit code visible on your Authy screen, and then switch back to your workstation.

On Windows or macOS workstation:
  • Enter the six-digit code displayed on your Authy screen. Note that the code changes every 30 seconds, so if you run out of time, just enter the next code.
  • The QR code disappears and then you see a few icons for choosing client downloads. Don't click any of these, just scroll to the bottom of the screen and select Logout.

Your device is now ready to use Authy along with the OpenVPN Client on your workstation.
